Dear Students,
We would like to welcome all students to the Marine Institute. As your student council, we hope to ensure the same success as in previous years.
The Marine Institute comes second to none in every aspect, especially its students. There is so much to offer here, and many things in which to participate. The Institute has gained respect worldwide, and the employment potential after graduation is great. Deciding to attend Marine Institute is a choice that I am sure you will not regret.
The dynamic between the instructors and students is something that students come to appreciate very much. The Institute's student population is not large, which means that you have the opportunity to become part of a close-knit community, by taking part in many of the social and academic events that we offer throughout the year.
You may be wondering what the Students' Union does exactly. We are a member of the Canadian Federation of Students, which is composed of more than 500 000 students at more than 80 students' unions at post-secondary institutions across Canada. The CFS works to ensure that the opinions and issues of students are heard in Ottawa and in our own provincial House of Assembly. Being a part of the Federation has proven to be very rewarding in previous years, and we will continue to be active members and make our voices heard.
We can help you with many things, such as academic appeals and student aid, and we operate the student health plan. The Union is also responsible for planning social and academic events, and to help student societies get a head start.
The office of the MISU is located in room W2042, in the west wing on the main floor. If there is anything that you need help with, feel free to drop in and we will do everything possible to help you.
We hope that you have a great experience here at the Marine Institute and that you gain much success through the programs offered here. Make your experience here worthwhile and meaningful by getting involved, and getting to know people, it will make your time that much more enjoyable. We wish you the best for your future.
Sincerely,
Your Marine Insitute Students' Union
